‘Lest We Remember…’ (4)

Well, it’s 11th November. And not just any 11th November, either: it is the only 11th November there will ever be that occurs 100 years after the end of the conflict that was known, idealistically but hilariously, as ‘the war to end all wars’.

With this in mind, I feel driven to put out some kind of ‘Remembrance Sunday’ posting that aspires to a level of honest sanity which readers will be hard put to find anywhere else in a culture that long ago handed control of this topic to a coalition of the evil and the stupid. At the same time, however, I am quite aware that the quantity of sheer disgust that I feel at things I have heard and seen over the last several days means that I probably ought to save my personal reflections for a slightly later occasion.

Think of it as my very own ‘two-minute silence’, if you like. And, in any case, it’s not as if evil and stupidity are about to vanish from the world, is it?

So what I shall do right now is simply post a short clip from a 1969 film whose own inspiring level of honest sanity requires a considerable quantity of (intermittent) anti-realism. I don’t believe it requires anything further from me — or from anyone else — by way of commentary.
