Neil Clark, CBE

Just a quick — literally 10-minute! — posting before I go to bed…

I suddenly see in a ‘social media’ message from Neil Clark — my respected net-buddy and a terrific journalist (and writer, and broadcaster, and blogger…) whose work for ‘Russia Today’ should be known to everyone in the UK! — that it was 80 years ago today that Britain and its more or less unwilling Empire witnessed the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

Now, events of this kind are of literally no interest to me; but such is Neil’s ability as a writer and storyteller that I am actually quite curious to know what it is that he has said about this ceremony in the article he has apparently written for something called the Daily Express. (What is that? Is it a publication of some kind?)

As it happens, though, he mentions in his posting that there were ‘some humorous incidents’ during the (non-)event…

The ceremony itself was certainly not without mishap…

The very doddery Dean of Westminster fell down the stairs as he was carrying St Edward’s crown…

The Archbishop of Canterbury appeared to be fumbling with the crown as he placed it on the new King’s head, as he feared the Dean had given it to him the wrong way round…

There was embarrassment for the Duke of Marlborough when chocolates and lozenges fell out from under his coronet…

One can only imagine the feelings of the poor Bishop who accidentally stepped on the new King’s train and was given a sharp rebuke…

— All of which seems to me to be entirely in keeping with the hideous reality of sclerotic monarchism and the sub-moral imperialism that is its bloated and murderous child.

In fact, the one thing of importance that Neil’s paragraph fails to mention is — as far as I can see! — the only part of the proceedings that possessed the slightest human warmth, health and realism…

And that, my friends, is the march that William Walton — then aged 35! — provided for the occasion…

Here it is…

Goodnight!
