  1. Nice one, Mark – with the Eleventh Symphony a perfect background/foreground. Interesting to see ‘British Tanks’ – on the day the Armistice was signed, 20,000 British troops were fighting in Russia.

    And with the original (or 1960s?) Russian titles (sub-titled), rather than the rather ungainly English ones.

    Be that as it may, one can only admire the work that went into selecting bits of Shostakovich to fit Eisenstein’s film. Really well done.

    I’ve never heard Meisel’s original score for this film. One for the wish list!
